According to authorities, an explosion tore through Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Nowshera on Friday, killing seven people, including former National Assembly member Maulana Hamidul Haq.
According to the local police officer, the explosion happened within the seminary following Friday prayers. Maulana Hamidul Haq was the target of the attack, according to KP Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed.
He informed reporters that Maulana Hamidul Haq, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami, had passed away. That was a suicide bombing, the KP IGP added.
Police have sealed off the area for safety and investigation, and emergency response teams have arrived on the scene.
Rescue personnel reported that about 20 persons had been hurt. Every hospital in Peshawar has declared an emergency.
