In his first season on the tour, the 26-year-old left-hander defeated Germany’s Stephan Jaeger by three shots to earn a two-year exemption.
McCarthy became the first player since Jason Gore in 2005 to win on both tours in the season they were promoted after securing his tour spot this year with three victories on the development Korn Ferry Tour.
With a four-under-par 67 to finish at 23 under, McCarty commented, “It’s been an unbelievable last few months.” “It was a lot of fun [and a] pretty surreal moment.”
McCarty had a two-stroke lead over Jaeger, Joe Highsmith, Kevin Steelman, and Harris English going into the final round; however, with five holes left, that lead had been cut to one.
However, McCarty’s eagle two on the par-four 14th hole essentially sealed the win. He then made two more birdies and a bogey before celebrating with his family and caddie.
On 19 under, Streelman and fellow American Lucas Glover shared third place.
