Barbie was a boon to Hollywood, according to Meryl Streep, the actress with the most Oscar nominations ever. She thinks our movies and consequently our employment have been saved by the Mattel doll movie.
The Post actress stated, “You’ve saved the movies last summer and all of our jobs,” during a speech at the Palm Springs Film Awards. You should ride that wave, youngsters, till you’re old and deserving of being jaded like me. You’ve brought delight to innumerable generations and genders of people.”
The renowned actress Greta Gerwig praised the movie track, saying, “I just want to say to Billie and Finneas that you have delivered the ‘Barbie’ love bomb.”
Meryl’s commendation of Barbie is noteworthy because it echoes Steven Spielberg’s statements made to Tom Cruise during the filming of Top Gun last year, in which he informed the megastar that he “saved Hollywood’s —” and “might have saved theatrical distribution.”
He went on to say, “Seriously, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ might have saved the entire theatrical industry.”
