Following Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday, several platform users had expressed dissatisfaction about being “automatically” prompted to follow the new president, Vice President JD Vance, and First Lady Melania Trump.
Andy Stone, a spokesperson for Meta, clarified that the White House was in charge of the accounts and had updated them to include the new hires.
He added in a statement, “This is the same procedure we followed during the last presidential transition.”
Potus (which means “president of the United States”), VicePresident, and Flotus (which means “first lady”) are the handles associated with the accounts.
According to archived versions of the pages, Joe Biden and Jill Biden’s names and official portraits were once associated with the Potus and Flotus accounts.
