The husband and wife duo used a daring strategy when they submitted Wild Summon to the British Film Institute: “We went into the office and just said, ‘We want to become fish’.”That paid off, and they were hired.
Their eldest son Yuli took on the position of drone cinematographer for the production, and the whole family moved to Iceland to learn how to dive in an attempt to capture the most genuine portrayal.
Adam McKay, the director of Don’t Look Up, executive produced the 14-minute animated short, which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival. It was later shortlisted for an Oscar and is up for a BAFTA this weekend.
