Microsoft joined Google and IBM in forecasting that a fundamental shift in computer technology is considerably closer than previously thought when it introduced a new chip that indicated quantum computing is “years, not decades” away.
Quantum computing has the potential to perform computations that would take millions of years for current systems, which could lead to breakthroughs in chemistry, medicine, and many other sectors where traditional computers are bewildered by the nearly limitless number of conceivable molecular combinations.
