The UK has taken in migrants who have been stuck on the isolated island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean for more than three years.
According to paperwork reviewed by the news , the Sri Lankan Tamils are allowed to stay in the UK for a period of six months with financial assistance from the Foreign Office.
Although years of intricate legal fights spanning hundreds of miles over their fate have come to an end with their voyage to the UK, their long-term future is still uncertain.
The majority of the around 60 refugees have been residing in a temporary camp on Diego Garcia, the location of a vital military installation for the United Kingdom and the United States, since October 2021, when they were the first to apply for asylum there.
