The Foreign Office (FO) responded to remarks regarding recent military court verdicts on Tuesday by stating that the rulings were in accordance with the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s decision and made under a statute passed by the parliament.
“Pakistan is fully committed to fulfilling all its international human rights obligations,” stated FO spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch in a statement.
According to her, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and other international human rights legislation are upheld by Pakistan’s legal system.
“It ensures the advancement and defense of human rights and fundamental freedoms and provides remedies for judicial review by the higher courts.”
The official went on to say that Islamabad supports fruitful and constructive discourse to further democratic and human rights.
