There’s no letup in the verbal sparring between President Biden and former President Trump on the federal government’s handling of Hurricane Helene and Milton, which struck the southeast two weeks ago, as relief efforts in Florida intensify.
Trump retaliated once more, continuing to accuse Biden and Vice President Harris of being inept and tardy in leading the government’s storm response efforts.
Vice President Harris and I have maintained continuous communication with state and municipal authorities. “We’re providing them with everything they require,” Biden stressed on Thursday.
The politics of federal disaster relief are once again front and center on the campaign trail with less than four weeks until Election Day. Harris and Trump are locked in a narrow margin-of-error race to succeed Biden as president, and two of the hardest-hit states from Helene—North Carolina and Georgia—are among the seven crucial battlegrounds that will likely determine the outcome of the 2024 election.
Over the course of almost two weeks, Trump has increased the volume.
“THE WORST RESPONSE TO A STORM OR HURRICANE DISASTER IN U.S. HISTORY,” asserted Trump on social media on Tuesday.
