Shiza Fatima, the minister of state for information technology, said on Tuesday that the nation’s slowing internet speeds are caused by a shortage of bandwidth and an increase in customers.
The minister asserted that Pakistan has some of the lowest internet rates in the world but is having trouble keeping up with demand due to a lack of infrastructure during a meeting with beat reporters in Islamabad.
“Internet speed naturally slows down with a growing population and limited bandwidth,” Fatima said, emphasizing the necessity for upgraded infrastructure to handle the rising demand.
Fatima discussed a number of initiatives, such as introducing Safe City programs and switching to digital payments, aimed at improving Pakistan’s digital environment. “We are moving in the direction of digitization.
