Within the next eight to ten months, the government hopes to lower the price of power to Rs10 per unit, according to a statement made by Federal Energy Minister Awais Leghari on Thursday.
“The government’s top priority is to reduce electricity prices,” he declared during an Islamabad press conference.
“A number of strategies are being put into practice to accomplish this goal, such as price-lowering discussions with electricity generating companies.”
The minister emphasized that savings of Rs411 billion have been achieved through the termination of agreements with five independent power producers.
The minister stated in the first phase that talks have started with the five IPPs to evaluate current contracts, with the goal of reaching a consensus through cooperative consultations on a shared issue.
