Concerned about the retailer’s sales tactics, including the use of “countdown timers” to entice shoppers to purchase products before the deal ends, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) launched an investigation into the company two years ago.
Emma’s spokeswoman said that the company has implemented “most of the adjustments the CMA asked for,” which included modifying its use of countdowns and discontinuing other urgency strategies.
But the CMA wants Emma UK to restrict how many products are offered at a discount to the full or’reference’ price, she continued.
The CMA specifically requests that we cap the number of units that can be offered at a headline discount at twice the value of them.
Since promotions might have to expire early, we think that enforcing such a restriction would deny customers throughout the UK access to the greatest and most well-liked offers.
The watchdog has filed a lawsuit because it lacks the authority to sanction Emma on its own. Which?, a consumer advocacy group, has suspended its best buy endorsements of Emma mattresses and stated that it supports the action.
