In Missouri, an incredible feat occurred when The Shoelace Factory and the City Museum worked together to create the longest shoelace ever, measuring 831.9 meters (2,729 ft). This outstanding accomplishment highlights the museum’s dedication to fusing innovation, history, and public participation.
The most recent exhibition at the City Museum, housed in the former International Shoe Company building’s Annex, is closely related to its past. Washington Avenue, sometimes known as “Shoe Street U.S.A.,” was the center of St. Louis’s thriving shoe industry. The shoelace record is especially appropriate because of the museum’s location, which honors its colorful history.
The record-breaking shoelace was woven by The Shoelace Factory, which is housed on the second floor of the museum, using antiquated machinery from 1890. It took more than a day to complete the procedure.
