Vans equipped with new artificial intelligence cameras record drivers using their phones or without fastening their seatbelts.
In March, South Gloucestershire Council discovered that seven drivers were distracted by their phones while driving, and 150 people were not using seatbelts. The survey lasted 12 hours.
“We believe that using technology like this will make people seriously consider their driving behavior,” stated Pamela Williams, the manager of road safety education for the council.
According to data, 425 people were hurt on South Gloucestershire’s roads in 2023, with 69 of them suffering life-threatening injuries or passing away.
Throughout the survey, mounted artificial intelligence (AI) equipment was fastened to vans. The gadgets monitored oncoming traffic and determined if drivers were in violation of the law.
