On Monday, Punjab Home Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal presided over a meeting to assess the state of the camera installation projects in Punjab’s prisons.
The Safe City Authority was given a week to finish the survey about camera installation by the Home Secretary.
He ordered that all Punjabi jails have body cams, public speech systems, access control systems, and panic buttons installed.
According to the meeting, the Safe Prisons Program will install state-of-the-art 8 mega pixel cameras in every jail.
Modern cameras with facial and vehicle recognition capabilities as well as a visitor control system will be in place to keep an eye on every visitor to the jails.
With the use of contemporary cameras, jail officials and convicts’ movements and attendance will be tracked.
