According to CBS News, former first lady Melania Trump revealed on social media on Tuesday that her mother Amalija Knavs, who had been ailing for a few days, had passed away at the age of 78.
“It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Amalija,” Melania tweeted on Tuesday night. Melania has previously gone by Twitter under the handle X.
“Amalija Knavs was a powerful woman who exuded kindness, grace, and dignity at all times. She gave her husband, children, grandson, and son-in-law her whole attention. We will adore and cherish her legacy forever and will mourn her terribly.
Although Melania did not disclose the cause of death, her husband, former US President Donald Trump, had already disclosed that Amalija had been admitted to the hospital the previous week.
Melania had not attended the Christmas celebrations with the Trump family.
During his New Year’s Eve party at Mar-a-Lago, Trump acknowledged his wife’s absence from family get-togethers and Christmas celebrations and said she was caring for her mother, “who is very ill”.
“Melania, the wonderful First Lady who is so well-liked by the public, is currently in the hospital with her mother,” he said to the visitors. Amalija, her mother, is quite sick, but maybe she will be getting better.”
On a Miami hospital, Trump disclosed that his mother-in-law was recuperating and that “it’s a very tough one.”
