According to the Interior Ministry, approximately Rs1.35 billion has been spent in the last five years to control rallies in the Red Zone of Islamabad.
The information, which detailed how much each administration spent on policing protests and sit-ins, was presented during the National Assembly’s question hour.
When the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) administration assumed power in 2018, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) all protested against it.
Handling these protests cost Rs157.7 million in the 2019–20 fiscal year.
In 2020–21, expenses totaled Rs96.1 million, and in 2021–22, they increased to Rs 277.9 million.
