According to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), one instance of the Clade 1b mpox virus strain was found in London.
The patient, who is receiving treatment at London’s Royal Free Hospital, showed no signs of community transmission.
The individual in question had been on vacation in Africa and had taken an overnight flight on October 21 to return to the UK.
On Tuesday, the UKHSA received confirmation of the case.
They experienced flu-like symptoms more than twenty-four hours later, and on October 24, they began to get a rash that worsened over the next few days.
They were swabbed, tested, and then segregated while awaiting the findings of their visit to A&E in London on October 27.
Professor Susan Hopkins, chief medical adviser at UKHSA, stated that the “risk to the UK population remains low” and that less than ten direct connections are being tracked down as a result of the discovery.
At that time, the strain was responsible for at least 1,000 deaths across Africa, prompting the World Health Organization (WHO) to proclaim a global health emergency for the second time in two years due to the disease’s growing spread.
