BERLIN: Regardless of the strain—new or old—mpox is not the new COVID since its transmission can be controlled, a spokesperson from the World Health Organization emphasized on Tuesday.
According to Hans Kluge, WHO regional director for Europe, behavior modification, nondiscriminatory public health measures, and mpox immunization helped contain the outbreak during a UN press briefing.
According to Kluge, there is little risk to the broader public.
“It’s another Covid-19; are we going to put the WHO European area under lockdown? “Clearly, the answer is ‘no,'” he stated.
“So, will we decide to implement the controls and get rid of mpox worldwide? Or will we go into yet another panicked and ignored cycle?
