Ministers, according to members of the cross-party Culture, Media, and Sport Committee, must adjust to new platforms and apps that cater to people who are progressively moving away from traditional news sources.
Ofcom research shows that 10% of individuals between the ages of 12 and 15 cite TikTok as their primary news source, while 71% of individuals between the ages of 16 and 24 use social media in place of or in addition to news websites.
The MPs’ advice is a part of a larger report that was released on Friday and urges the use of “trusted voices” to dispel conspiracies and convey crucial information, including scientists and doctors.
