MPs on Wednesday night approved an amendment to the Criminal Justice Bill that would add three new offenses: causing death by dangerous cycling, causing serious injury by dangerous riding, and causing death by negligent or careless cycling.
The amendment, put forth by Tory leader and former minister Sir Iain Duncan Smith, received support from the government and will now be incorporated into the bill.
Speaking in the Commons, Sir Ian called the new rule “urgent” and clarified that it is not anti-cycling, despite what many people have claimed.
On the contrary, it is important to ensure that this happens in a reasonable and safe manner.
