ISLAMABAD: The federal government’s request to have certain disputed paragraphs from the controversial Mubarak Sani case ruling removed has been granted by the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, along with Justices Irfan Saadat Khan and Naeem Akhtar Afghan, made up the three-person bench that heard the Centre’s argument and the Punjab government’s petition for changes to the February 6 ruling of the top court on Thursday.
Sani, the accused of sacrilege, had his conviction reversed by the supreme court. He had filed a complaint under the Punjab Holy Quran (Printing and Recording) (Amendment) Act, requesting the removal of some of the allegations against him.
The court stated in its ruling that the defendant’s alleged offense would not become a crime until 2021.
