PESHAWAR: The founder of the banned Lashkar-e-Islam, renowned religious scholar Mufti Munir Shakir, was murdered and three people were injured in an explosion at the door of a mosque in the Urmar neighborhood of Peshawar on Saturday.
According to The News on Sunday, a device that appeared to be directed at the religious expert exploded when Shakir visited the mosque in the Kachori neighborhood to do Asr prayers.
The explosion caused some partial damage to the mosque’s entryway. According to authorities, teams of bomb disposal specialists and investigators gathered evidence from the scene.
The explosion, which was planted in front of the mosque’s gate, reportedly employed 600 grams of explosives, according to the police. They claimed that in order to help with the investigations, CCTV was being collected from surrounding neighborhoods.
