ISLAMABAD According to sources who spoke with Geo News on Friday, the federal government denied the proposals of numerous provincial governments to impose social media platform access bans for a few days during Muharram ul Haram.
Due to security concerns, the provincial governments requested that six social media applications be suspended for approximately one week during Muharram.
During Muharram, believers conduct processions throughout the nation, and religious leaders speak to sizable crowds under strict security. Thousands of law enforcement officers are stationed to maintain security throughout the month.
The Ministry of Interior has sources that state social media platforms won’t be taken down, guaranteeing unwavering security throughout the holy month.
The government stated that cellphone transmissions will be restricted and that security should be made more active and effective.
The ministry declared that “security should be made more active and effective” and that “cell signals will be blocked in areas where processions and majlis are held.”
The News said on Friday that the Punjab government has justified the action by citing the dissemination of hate speech and false information.
A meeting of the Standing Committee of the Cabinet on Law and Order was called to evaluate Muharram’s administrative and security arrangements, per a letter from the Punjab Home Department.
