MADRID: At his trial on Monday, former soccer federation head Luis Rubiales was confronted by Spanish women’s World Cup winner Jenni Hermoso, who said she did not consent to the kiss that set off a nationwide protest against sexism in sports.
“I knew I was being kissed by my boss and that should not happen in any social or work environment,” Hermoso said in reference to the incident that was broadcast live to millions of people worldwide during the 2023 World Cup awards ceremony in Australia.
The 34-year-old forward told Madrid’s High Court, “I think it was a moment that tainted one of the happiest days of my life,” while Rubiales made notes without glancing at her.
