Fourteen North Koreans have been accused by a federal court in St. Louis for allegedly participating in a long-running plot to extort money from US corporations and transfer funds to Pyongyang’s weapons programs.
According to the larger scam, thousands of North Korean IT workers are employed and operate remotely for US companies using stolen, borrowed, and fake identities from persons in the US and other nations.
According to the indictment, over a six-year period, the defendants and those who collaborated with them produced at least $88 million (£51.5 million) for the North Korean government.
A request for comment from News was not immediately answered by North Korea’s UN delegation.
