A bill to change legislation pertaining to the three branches of the military was passed by the National Assembly on Monday. The bill would increase the fixed tenure of services heads to five years.
The amending bill was introduced in the lower house of parliament by Khawaja Asif, the minister of defense.
Extending the terms of the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, and Chief of Air Staff from three to five years is the goal of the amendment bill.
These changes aim to align the Pakistan Army Act of 1952, the Pakistan Navy Ordinance of 1961, and the Pakistan Air Force Act of 1953 with the longest terms possible for the Chief of the Army Staff, the Chief of the Naval Staff, and the Chief of the Air Force.
