Muhammad Hassan Shigri’s body was successfully recovered from an 8,200-meter summit on K2, the second-highest mountain in the world, by a group of eight mountaineers under the direction of Naila Kiani.
The recovery expedition is the largest body retrieval on K2, taking three days to complete from the bottleneck to the base camp.
Due to ethical questions surrounding his death last year, Hassan’s death received international attention. Reports suggested that other climbers had passed him by without providing assistance during his critical state.
After being contacted by Hassan’s family, Kiani swiftly brought the crew together to make the most of the window in the weather.
Along with a logistics manager, the team included of seasoned high-altitude climbers like Ali Mohammed Sadpara, Mohammed Murad Sadpara, Zakir Hussein Sadpara, Dilawar Sadpara, and Akbar Hussein Sadpara.
