Health experts have connected the alarming increase in oral and dental cancer cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the overuse of niswar.
At the province’s largest dental facility, over 35 patients have received a diagnosis of these serious illnesses in the last three months.
Leading dental surgeon Dr. Bashir Rehman, who has been caring for these patients, mentioned the startlingly high rate of snuff use in the area. Dr. Bashir said, “Roughly 15 to 25 percent of the population here uses snuff.” He clarified that the product frequently contains a number of dangerous substances, such as lime, which is known to hasten the onset of cancer.
Both regional and branded snuff variants have been blamed for the increase in instances.
