On Friday, journalists and media organizations affiliated with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) nationwide protested the recent contentious changes to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 by observing a Black Day.
Journalists wore black armbands, and black flags were raised in press clubs throughout the county and on the union’s offices to document their protest.
In the midst of controversy over the controversial modifications made by the opposition and journalistic community, President Zardari signed the Peca (Amendment) Bill 2025 into law on Wednesday. The bill was previously hurried through both chambers of parliament.
The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) called for the celebration of Black Day, and the JAC, which is made up of the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) and the All Pakistan Newspapers Society.
