Philip Breedlove, the former head of NATO, gives a severe warning, claiming that if the West abandons Ukraine in its struggle with Russia, it would inevitably fail.
Breedlove emphasized the potentially catastrophic outcomes in an interview with Newsweek, saying, “If the West abandons Ukraine, it will fight valiantly, but tens of thousands more Ukrainians will die, and eventually, Russia will subjugate all of Ukraine, which will once again be a Russian vassal.”
Breedlove, the NATO commander from 2013 to 2016, maintained that Russia has an edge over Ukraine because of its larger population and depth.
He did, however, emphasize that Ukraine could win the war if the West gave it enough help. He emphasized how crucial Western politicians were in deciding the result: Ukraine will win this war if the West decides to give them what they need to win. This war will conclude just as Western leaders hope and wish.”
These remarks are made at a time when congressional Republicans are putting up a fight to support Ukraine further. An emergency budget plan intended to provide the US with more cash for Ukraine was defeated by the GOP in December.
“We’ll continue to supply Ukraine with critical weapons and equipment as long as we can,” said President Joe Biden in a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, signaling continued help to the country despite this.
Requests for comment from Breedlove’s representatives were not immediately answered.
