ISLAMABAD: Distribution companies and K-Electric will be able to recover Rs43.23 billion through quarterly adjustments for the fourth quarter (April–June) of fiscal year 2023–24 thanks to an additional charge approved by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) of Rs1.743 per unit for the next three months beginning in September 2024.
Customers of K-Electric and state-owned distribution companies would be impacted by this, further burdening households already struggling with increased energy bills.
The substantial Rs21.253 billion, or almost half of the total, set aside for capacity charges, which compensate independent power producers (IPPs) for maintaining generation capacity regardless of energy use, is the driving force behind this recovery. System usage charges are bringing in an extra Rs7.368 billion.
