The contentious Cholistan Canal project was fiercely opposed by the Sindh Assembly, which warned that such projects could jeopardize national unity and cause the province to experience acute water shortages.
Azra Pechuho, the health minister for Sindh, issued a severe warning: “Avoid causing division in the nation. Pakistan will not survive if Sindh does not. She emphasised that the province is already experiencing a water problem and denounced the proposal to send water to the desert as a “childish approach”.
Nisar Khuhro, the leader of the PPP, said Sindh was being attacked and accused the federal government of constructing six contentious canals without the required permits. He declared, “We will not allow these projects to destroy Sindh.”
