Significant changes to Canada’s immigration laws are about to be implemented, which might have an effect on millions of foreign workers, especially those from India.
There are worries that many foreigners may depart voluntarily after Immigration Minister Marc Miller revealed that around five million temporary work licenses are scheduled to expire by the end of 2025.
For those who overstay their permits, the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) will also enforce immigration regulations.
The revised immigration plan calls for a 21% drop in the annual objective for permanent residents by 2025, from 500,000 to 395,000.
Cuts will also be made to international student visas and temporary foreign worker permits; by 2026, it is anticipated that student permits would have decreased by 10% and foreign worker permits by more than 40%.
