Nicole Kidman talked candidly about the Oscar she received following her well-publicized split from Tom Cruise.
In 2003, the 56-year-old actress and the Mission Impossible star called it quits on their 11-year marriage. That same year, she received her first Academy Award for her performance as Virginia Wolf in The Hours.
“My career was going so well, but I was having problems in my personal life,” she remarked.
Nicole revealed that she went home after her big night and ate her takeaway on the Beverly Hills Hotel’s floor.
“After having a burger and French fries on the motel floor with my family, I went to bed. I realized at that point.
“I need to find my love; I need a love in my life,” I thought to myself. Since this is meant to be the moment when you declare, “This is ours,” she went on.
The Eyes Wide Shut actress also revealed that she felt that it would be “gloating” to go to the Oscars afterparty.
“You’ve got to go,” everyone said, recalling the incident. “You have to carry your Academy Award around the party,” I said, finding it a bit smug. Simply put, it’s inappropriate. That’s what you do, they say.
Following her widely reported divorce from Tom, whom she wed in 1990 and separated from in 2001, Nicole received her first Oscar.
