In 2017, Nimisha Priya from the Indian state of Kerala was found to have killed Talal Abdo Mahdi, a local.
Her appeal was denied by Yemen’s Supreme Judicial Council in November, paving the route for her execution.
However, because Yemen is governed by Sharia law, she can obtain a pardon by giving the victim’s family diyah, or “blood money”.
Her mother Prema Kumari, husband Tomy Thomas, and daughter Mishal, age 11, arrived in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, on Tuesday. Accompanying her was Samuel Jones, a lobbyist for the Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council. They’ll try to get together in Sanaa with Nimisha.
