Nine crew men of the Indian cargo dhow, Tajdare Haram, were rescued by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) through a Search and Rescue (SAR) operation after they abandoned the ship after water entered it approximately 120 nautical miles south of Karachi.
“The vessel reported water ingress at around 11am on December 26, prompting the crew to abandon the vessel and take refuge in a life raft,” according to the PMSA.
According to the statement, PMSA promptly initiated a coordinated rescue operation after receiving the distress warning from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai.
In addition to sending out an aircraft, the PMSA instructed neighboring merchant ships and PMSA ships to arrive at the area of the event.
