The Pokémon Company, against the creator of the popular survival adventure game Palworld.
Palworld gained notoriety as “Pokémon with guns” very soon after its debut trailer in 2021.
A few days after the game’s January release, The Pokémon Company declared it will look into the accusations of copying.
A request for comment from News was not immediately answered by Pocketpair Inc., the developer of Palworld. The CEO of Pocketpair had already stated that the game has obtained legal clearance.
Nintendo and The Pokémon Company claimed in comments that were put on their websites that Palworld “infringes multiple patent rights”.
Injunctions against infringement and damages are sought in this litigation.
In just one month since its launch, Palworld has amassed over 25 million gamers, indicating its popularity.
Similar to the well-known Pokémon video game series, it likewise revolves around gathering unusual creatures with various abilities.
According to the Pocketpair website, the game skillfully combines “elements of battle, monster-capturing, training, and base building.”
As they move throughout a vast map, players—referred to as “pal-tamers”—fight against human adversaries and wildlife that they can capture and enlist as “pals.”
The monsters can work at a base, making tools and supplies to use in the field, or they can fight alongside the player in fights.
