Police officers in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa protested the growing militancy in their area earlier this month by going on the streets. The protesters made six demands, including the withdrawal of the Pakistani army from their district within six days.
On September 12, the four-day sit-in came to an end following fruitful discussions with the local government.
But the day the demonstrators left, there were a ton of statements on social media claiming the KP government had given the order to withdraw the army from the area within 15 days, ostensibly in response to one of the demonstrators’ requests.
The assertion is untrue.

On September 12th, a user of X (formerly Twitter) posted a video claiming that the “negotiations” had gone well and that the army would be leaving Lakki Marwat in fifteen days. Up until now, the post has received 185,000 views and close to 6,000 reposts.
