LAHORE: Without naming the past players, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi stated on Thursday that Babar Azam’s captaincy will be decided by head coach Gary Kirsten and former cricket players.
“As of yet, no decision has been made concerning Babar Azam,” the nation’s interior minister and top cricket official stated to media in Lahore.
It was embarrassing for a squad of Pakistan’s caliber for the Green Shirts to be eliminated from the T20 World Cup before the national team even reached the Super Eight round.
They had not only fallen to underdogs the United States, who were participating in an international competition for the first time, but they had also lost a close match against India, and their victories over weaker teams Ireland and Canada had followed difficult losses.
The PCB chief informed reporters that making decisions while upset is not a good idea because hasty decisions are typically unproductive.
“I’m only speaking to those former cricketers who are interested in the betterment of Pakistan cricket,” he said.
A “major surgery” was needed, the top official had declared last month, because of the national side’s appalling performance.
“Surgery is a topic of discussion, but one should never make a decision when furious.
