The main electricity supplier in Karachi, K-Electric (KE), has been instructed by the Sindh government to stop loadshedding at night in the nation’s financial center, as residents of the city struggle with the intense heat that has been made worse by frequent power outages.
On Friday, Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah and Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani urged the city’s electrical provider not to, under any circumstances, cut off the city’s power supply between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
The ministers’ comments were made when the city was still experiencing extremely hot weather, which has resulted in sweltering temperatures in recent days—the mercury has even reached 42°C, while it “feels-like” it was above 50°C earlier this week.
Long-term load shedding in a number of the megalopolis’s locations has made the situation worse.
A day before, residents staged protests in the streets against the unbearable hours-long power outages and water shortages that they were experiencing.
Punjab Chowrangi, Liaquatabad No. 10, Abul Hasan Ispahani Road, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, and other places were the sites of the demonstrations.
The city saw light rain and strong gusts on Thursday, which gave the locals some respite.
Surjani Town, Gulshan e Maymar, Malir, North Karachi, Water Pump, II Chundrigar Road, Garden, Gulshan e Iqbal, FB Area, and their surrounding communities were among the places that experienced rainfall.
