Along with a 29-year-old male who is hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and a 24-year-old guy about whom police said they are awaiting information, the 32-year-old woman was one of three victims of stabbing on Sunday.
Eighteen of the ninety arrests that police have made during the carnival thus far are related to the possession of offensive weapons.
The force posted an update on Sunday night, saying, “Hundreds of thousands of people came to Notting Hill Carnival today to enjoy a fantastic celebration.”
“As part of a very well thought out policing strategy, our officers have been on duty working to keep them safe.
Unfortunately, there were some who came to commit crimes and use violence.”
They further stated that 15 officers have already been attacked during the festival.
On Sunday night, a Section 60 order was issued, granting cops the authority to demand that anyone wearing face coverings to disguise their identity remove them; if the person refuses, they risk arrest.
After announcing that there will be a “very significant policing presence” this year, the force has about 7,000 officers on duty for the bank holiday weekend event.
It is anticipated that a million people will attend Carnival, with Children and Families’ Day on Sunday marking the official start of events.
