The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first proposed the restrictions, which would outlaw the product in its entirety, two years ago. Since then, business, civil liberties, and health advocates have engaged in a heated discussion over the requirements. The FDA has missed deadlines for completing the proposed ban on multiple occasions; this week was no exception.
The FDA remains committed to issuing the tobacco product standards as quickly as possible for flavorings in cigars and menthol in cigarettes; the [Office of Management and Budget] is currently undertaking the last assessment of these regulations.
