Giulia Manfrini, 36, experienced a “freak accident” while surfing in the isolated Mentawai Islands, according to James Colston, her business partner.
Colston posted a statement on Instagram on Sunday, saying, “Unfortunately, Giulia couldn’t be saved despite the heroic efforts of her partner, local resort staff, and doctors.” “We think she passed away in a place she loved, doing what she loved.”
According to state news agency Antara, Manfrini was surfing off the southern portion of Siberut Island at around 9:30 a.m. local time when he was hit in the chest by a swordfish, according to Lahmudin Siregar, acting head of the Mentawai Islands disaster management office.
