Oliver Stone recently provided clarification about remarks he made regarding Ryan Gosling’s Barbie role.
The update follows the 77-year-old director’s claim in a previous interview with City AM that the actor from La La Land is a part of “the infantalization of Hollywood.”
“If Ryan Gosling is doing that shit for money, then he’s wasting his time.” He ought to be directing more somber movies. The JFK director had stated, “Now it’s all fantasy, fantasy, fantasy, including all the war pictures: fantasy, fantasy.”
Oliver stated that he made the statement “before the film even came out” in response to the remarks that have been making the rounds on the Internet.
“I had little to no knowledge of the project at the time because I was too busy touring Europe to promote my nuclear documentary.”
Oliver also mentioned that he saw the movie in July 2023 and that he “was able to appreciate the film for its originality and its themes.”
“I found the filmmakers’ approach to be definitely different from what I expected,” he went on. I apologize for my ill-informed remarks. Barbie’s box office performance was a nice boost to our company’s spirits. I hope Greta and the whole Barbie crew have the best possible luck at the Oscars.
