Unexpectedly, after his party’s recent election success, National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah has backed away from his pledge to reinstate Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.
A key component of the NC’s election agenda was the reinstatement of Article 370, a constitutional clause that gave the area exceptional autonomy. But subsequent remarks from Abdullah seem to be moving away from this pledge.
Abdullah said, “it is nothing short of foolishness to expect the restoration of Article 370.” The party will no longer seek the restoration of this item, he explained further.
