ISLAMABAD: According to a statement released by the previous ruling party on Saturday, Omar Ayub Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), will remain the secretary-general of the party as his resignation has not been accepted on the orders of founding chairman Imran Khan.
Surprisingly, Omar, a prominent PTI politician, resigned from his position as the party’s secretary-general last week “to focus” on his job as the politician of the Opposition in the Pakistani National Assembly.
However, the PTI’s core committee and parliamentary party opposed his resignation and asked him to rescind his decision to leave the party’s desired position. As a result, his resignation was not accepted.
The opposition leader will remain the PTI secretary general and help the party with his political expertise and leadership, the party announced in an official statement issued today.
“Through separate unanimous resolutions, the parliamentary party and core committee of PTI reposed trust in him, commended him for his services, and requested that he continue as PTI secretary general,” the statement said.
It went on to say that the imprisoned former prime minister recognized Ayub’s sacrifices for the party and valued his contributions.
