Due to the urs (death anniversary) of the sufi saint Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh, schools in the Punjab provincial capital will be closed on Monday, August 26. This was announced by the authorities on Friday.
According to an official statement, Lahore’s public and private schools will both observe holidays on the occasion of Urs.
Every year, the devotees celebrate the occasion over three days. Commemorations of the saint will begin at the shrine of ‘Data Darbar’ tomorrow, a Saturday.
In the eleventh century, Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh was a Persian scholar and sufi. He settled in Lahore and died there, propagating the sufi concept of brotherhood. He was born in Ghazni, Afghanistan, in 990 AD.
