In June 2021, Georgia Laurie, a resident of Sandhurst, Berkshire, smacked the reptile in the face when it attacked Melissa, her twin.
Despite suffering severe injuries, both women made a full recovery.
The King’s Gallantry Medal, which honors heroic deeds, will be given to Georgia.
According to Ms. Laurie, receiving the medal was a “honour” that had “so shocked” her.
“It was unexpected and I didn’t see it coming.
“I feel really privileged, it’s a silver lining to have come out of the terrible ordeal… it kind of softens the whole traumatic experience,” she stated.
I feel compelled to share it with my sister because, let’s be honest, I doubt I would have been nominated if my sister hadn’t survived. It’s been a positive experience for the entire family.
