ISLAMABAD: On September 30 (Monday), the Supreme Court (SC) will make public its reserved decision regarding the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) appeal in the Punjab election tribunals case.
Earlier this week, a five-person higher bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa had postponed rendering a decision in the Punjab election tribunals’ case.
Judge Amin-ud-Din Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi make up the bench with Chief Justice Isa.
Additionally, the highest court had mandated that the chief electoral authority activate the tribunals so that they may hear petitions pertaining to the statewide polls on February 8.
The issue at hand concerns the jurisdiction to establish election tribunals, which has been a source of disagreement between the LHC and the ECP for some months.
